I spent most of my summer hyper-focused on the research that will be appearing on this blog in one form or another, as well as using up some yarn I received for my birthday. I finally succeeded! I had three cakes of Caron Latte Cakes “Earl Grey” colorway. I made: a vest, a hat, two fingerless gloves, and an unfinished C2C (corner-to-corner) piece which will either be a small shawl as it is, or a scrap-yarn blanket – I haven’t decided which. I discovered that I love the C2C method and will probably be finding more excuses to use it. It’s a stitch I can do without looking or focusing much, which is awesome when I’m a passenger in a car or sitting in the dark.

I wore the hat and vest to work, and received tons of compliments! Which was interesting, because when I wore the vest by itself, no one seemed to notice, lol.
I decided that I liked wearing the slouch hat so much, I would make another using leftover yarn – I made a shawl years ago for my MIL, and had a little Lion Brand Landscapes yarn left over. I love the feel of it. There wasn’t enough of it for the whole hat, so I dug through my stash to find an off-white yarn that matched the jewel tones of the Apple Orchard color way. I didn’t have a label, so I have no idea what brand of yarn the off-white is. Now I just need to determine which shirts actually match this, and/or wait for some cooler weather to wear somewhere other than my climate-controlled day-job office.

For September, I’m hoping to tackle at least one of my two UFOs (unfinished objects). I was super excited to add sleeves to a denim jacket, but made it complicated enough that I lost enthusiasm. I did some work on it last night, so I’m reasonably confident I can finish this section of sleeve. I’ll elaborate on it more when I finally finish!
My other plans include embroidering on a white denim jacket, exploring an embroidery book I have checked out of the library (more on that in a future update), mending clothes using the sewing machine, and writing more here!
What crafty things have you been working on?
