Welcome to Stitching the trans agenda!

Embroidery of a black cat with golden eyes looking at the viewer from a perch inside a hanging plant pot. The pot is pink with white stripes and the plant has red stems with red leaves in chain stitch and long green stems with clusters of green leaves at the ends. Hand stitched from a kit by yours truly.

I am a 30-something trans man (he/him or they/them) who is on a make-your-own-style journey: I want to embrace fashion in a sustainable way and learn how to make and modify clothing to my own tastes. I already crochet and embroider, and am determined to learn how to sew!

On this blog, you will (eventually) find: photos of my works in progress; reviews of books I’m reading related to fashion, fiber arts, the queer community, or some combination of the above; photos of cats, because I love cats; posts about sustainability, social justice, fashion history; and more!

I have a few goals here:

  1. Learn how to sew
  2. Embrace fashion without appropriation
  3. Build a sustainable wardrobe out of found or thrifted material in a way that affirms my gender
  4. Make a record that allows other transmasc folks to learn how to make clothes or design outfits that give us a silhouette that is gender affirming
  5. Find and/or build a community of crafters and like-minded folks interested in any of the above topics!

I hope you enjoy your stay here!
